The Christmas Album

Festive crackers from the Godfather of Soul

James Brown is best known as “The Godfather Of Soul” and “The Founding Father Of Funk”, taking the cutting edge(s) of Black music to new frontiers. Yet elsewhere in his fifty-odd year recording career, he wasn’t frightened of ploughing rather more traditional furrows, as proved by his unlikely – if highly-regarded – quartet of dedicated Christmas albums.

This album was the final part of that quartet, following from James Brown Sings Christmas Songs (1966), A Soulful Christmas (1968) and 1970’s Hey America (‘Santa Claus Is Definitely Here To Stay’). It features 11 original tracks that were written for the album’s release in 1999.
