'“At the audition these people came; Irma Thomas, Joe Tex, Benny Spellman, Ernie K.Doe, The Del Royals, Aaron Neville, Art Neville, Larry Williams, Lee Diamond and Jess Hill. Allen Toussaint came to play behind Aaron, I think, but he ended up playing behind a few other people..."'

Comprising three original LPs (‘Mr Joe’s Jambalaya Parts 1 & 2’ and ‘Loaded Down With The Blues’), this 46-track 2CD set revels in glorious 50s & 60s Southern Soul and Blues from Mr Joe Banashak’s legendary Minit, Instant, Alon and Seven-B labels. Hitmakers Ernie K-Doe, Chris Kenner, Aaron Neville, Jessie Hill, Benny Spellman and The Showman provide the chart action, while lesser-heard gems come courtesy of Eldridge Holmes, The Pitter Pats, Nolan Pitts, The Stokes and Little Buck.

New Orleans was a pretty special place in the late 50s and early 60s. Its music scene flourished and a wealth of quality artists released a stream of classic tracks. Joe Banashak was an instrumental figure in this process. In 1959, following years working for various other labels he founded Minit, the first independent label to be based in New Orleans.
