A specially-priced 4-CD set offering a wide-ranging and comprehensive overview Chicago's legendary Vee-Jay label.

Featuring 115 performances and over five hours of music Chicago Hit Factory presents some of the very best in black music from the 1950s and 1960s across a wide range of genres including R&B, Pop, Rock‘n’Roll, Gospel, DooWop, Jazz and Soul.  Here are the recordings which launched the careers of such major artists as Jimmy Reed, Gladys Knight, The Staple Singers, The Dells, Jerry Butler, Betty Everett, Gene Chandler, The Impressions, Dee Clark, Wayne Shorter and Joe Simon, plus definitive cuts by John Lee Hooker.

Discs One and Two include the label’s biggest hits, chronicling Vee-Jay's fortunes in the 50s and into the 60s.  Discs Three and Four dig deeper into the label's extensive archives to feature rarities and key performances from some of its lesser lights, alongside gems from its acclaimed Jazz and Gospel output.

The accompanying 36-page illustrated booklet presents a coherent and enjoyable overview of Vee-Jay’s rich history.  As well as a detailed label story, it includes biographies of the major artists and track-by-track annotation.  Packaged in a handsome compact box, each disc is housed in its own colour sleeve.
